What is First Mile?

Launched in January, First Mile is a European project, involving 6 main partners from 5 different nations, with the goal of driving tourism towards greater sustainability.

AITR (Italian Association for Responsible Tourism) is the Italian representative of the project, leading the companies to achieve their sustainable objectives.
Supporting 80 SMEs from Italy, Norway, France, and Slovenia, First Mile aims to accelerate sustainability through the application of behavioral sciences.

Awareness of human behavior is an incredible tool for influencing a rapid change of mindset in tourists, making them more conscientious about sustainability (even if they are not consciously aware!)

First Mile help

The project  help  SMEs (Small and medium-sized enterprises) to make sustainability choice:

  • Easy and effortless
  • The default option as the norm
  • Appealing

Cicloposse has been selected to be part of this programme…and here we are!

Sustainability has always been a top priority for us, and being part of this project means continuously enhancing Cicloposse’s respect for the environment and society.

What we plan

  • Reducing single-use plastics by providing travelers with reusable water bottles if they don’t have their own (although we always encourage guests to bring their own).
  • Minimizing plastic waste by highlighting public fountains and sinks and encouraging guests to drink free water, refilling their bottles.
  • Supporting the use of public transportation by making them easily accessible and emphasizing walking as a means of transportation.
  • Suggesting walking and public transportation as the primary and preferred options for travel and sightseeing communicating their advantages to travelers.

promote local food

In addition to prioritizing reducing plastic waste and walking and public transportation, we must also consider the significance of sustainable food practices and promoting off-the-beaten-path experiences.

Building on the existing focus on promoting local food and less crowded destinations, the goal is to make these aspects irresistible and surprising to travelers.
