Enchanting Umbria

it happens to be one of the smallest region in the country.
What it lacks in size it more than makes up for in rich history and unique personality.
The area’s intriguing past dates back to the Dark Ages and is wrought with medieval mystery, still evident today. Cycle to mystical monasteries and churches with outstanding frescoes; ancient castles, watchtowers and fortresses dot the landscape of rolling hills and lush green pastures.

With such breathtaking grounds, it’s no wonder that Umbria also happens to be a favourite among cycling enthusiasts. Also for the authentic cuisine: truffles, mushrooms, homemade pasta, game and fantastic red wines such as Sagrantino di Montefalco

Olive oil – Umbrian hills, especially in the area of Assisi, Trevi, Campello and Spoleto, excellent for the cultivation of olive oil.

The oil coming from this soil has a rich and strong characteristic taste. The colour is deeply green. The oil is certified by the denominations D.O.P. D.O.C. D.O.C.G. and this is a testament to its excellent quality.

Truffle is considered the ‘black diamond of gastronomy’ and is largely produced in Umbria due to the rich quality of the land. Umbrian truffle is an excellent dressing for any plate and an elite dressing in any cooking. The wealth and the variety of woods and lands in the region make it possible to pick tuber crops with particular organoleptic characteristics. This is certainly the case of the black truffle of Norcia and of the white one of the Orvieto area.
YOU Can taste  truffle on bruschetta, pasta, risotto or meet dishes at restaurant !

Norcia is famous for its raw hams, salamis and dry sausages and in all Italy you can sample hand cut or sliced prosciutto di Norcia. As a street food stop you can pickup a porchetta sandwich. Porchetta is a herb-packed boneless pork roast flavored with wild fennel that only grows in Umbria.

UMBRIA UNCOVERED: A Glimpse into the Juicy Past

Picture this: a saga rooted in ancient tribes, tantalizing struggles for power, and a touch of saintly mystique.

Welcome to the tale of Umbria – it’s a bit like an Italian telenovela but with more history and fewer dramatic pauses.

It all began with the Umbri tribe, the OGs of Italy. Alongside the Etruscans, they cozied up to the Romans, leaving behind remnants of epic times – think Roman ruins, opulent villas, and amphitheaters that still boast tales of yore.

Fast forward to the Middle Ages, where Saint Francis and Saint Clare take center stage. Saint Francis, born of prosperous parents, had a stint as a knight before a divine message redirected him to charitable deeds and a life of poverty. His BFF Clare ditched her family’s wishes and joined in, kickstarting a poverty squad that grew faster than gossip on a sunny piazza.

Amidst wars, Papal power struggles, and French conquests, Umbria remained a hotbed of shifting allegiances. Then came the bombshell moment: Francis’s mystical encounter on mount La Verna, featuring a divine selfie in the form of the Stigmata. Cue the crowd going wild over his holy street cred.

Finally, Francis rested in peace, surrounded by his crew, while the good people of Assisi paraded his bod to a swanky new resting place – the Basilica of St. Francis, now a magnet for pilgrims and history buffs alike.

So, yes, Umbria has seen it all – from ancient civilizations to saintly miracles. It’s like binge-watching a captivating historical drama unfold, where legends became reality, and the past whispers its secrets from every cobblestone
