Cicloposse achieves Travelife sustainability certification
We’re excited to announce that Cicloposse tour operator, has achieved Travelife partner certification for sustainability in December 2022.
This is an important milestone for us, as it shows our commitment to environmental and social responsibility, and to providing our customers with high-quality, low-impact travel experiences.
The certification process involved measuring our current sustainability status and identifying areas for improvement and it took almost 2 years.
It was only the first step, though – now that we’ve achieved partner certification, we need to implement all our sustainability goals and be monitored regularly to ensure we’re making progress. Fortunately, we have the tools and resources to do better, and we’re excited to embark on this journey.
At Cicloposse, we’ve always believed that sustainability is in our DNA, as bike trips have a lower impact than bus or car tours. However, we also recognize that no trip or journey can be completely sustainable. That said, we’re committed to minimizing our impact and to compensating for it whenever possible. We calculate our impact using the latest tools and methods, and we’re constantly looking for ways to improve.
To that end, we’re focusing on four key sustainability topics:
- Switching to sustainable transport, beyond bikes: While we’re proud to be a bike tour operator, we recognize that other modes of transportation can also be sustainable. We’re exploring options like electric vehicles and trains to offer our customers more choice and flexibility.
- Suggesting local food and getting rid of plastics: We believe that one of the best ways to experience a new place is through its food. By encouraging our customers to try local, seasonal, and organic food, we’re supporting local producers and reducing our carbon footprint. We’re also committed to minimizing plastic waste by using reusable containers, bottles, and bags.
- Paperless traveling and switching to apps: We’re minimizing our use of paper and promoting digital tools like apps, e-tickets, and online maps to reduce waste and make travel more convenient.
We have RidewithGPS tour operator account and offer off line navigation - Looking for less crowded spaces and visiting off-season: By avoiding peak tourist seasons and popular destinations, we’re reducing the impact of our trips on local communities and the environment. We’re also encouraging our customers to explore lesser-known places and support small businesses.
At the same time, we’re committed to facilitating rather than bothering our customers.
We recognize that a trip should be a pleasure, not an effort, so we’ll suggest low-impact options like public transportation when possible, but we’ll also offer alternatives when they’re not practical.
Cost is another important factor in our sustainability process.
We believe that going toward sustainability should not cost our customers more. That’s why we’re committed to keeping our prices transparent and affordable, without sacrificing quality or sustainability.
Finally, we’re not just focusing on the planet, but also on people – all people involved in our tours, including customers, workers, and local communities.
We’re committed to transparency, accountability, and fairness in all our interactions, and we’re proud to be a licensed tour operator that supports sustainable tourism practices.
We’re also aware that sustainability is a buzzword that can be easily misused or abused.
We want to be clear that we’re not using sustainability as a marketing gimmick or as a way to greenwash our business. On the contrary, we’re committed to transparency, authenticity, and accountability in all our sustainability efforts.
